Starting Situation
- As part of a Group-wide cost optimization program, various projects were launched to reduce IT costs
- The Application Portfolio Optimization (APO) project, for example, focuses on consolidating and streamlining the application landscape. More detailed information on the application infrastructure was required for identification and evaluation: Performance data to analyze utilization and possible unused resources, and commercial data to evaluate potential saving
Project Goals
- Logical and seamless linking of all available data of the infrastructure components to the infrastructure pre-product and the application
- Identification of possible data errors in the monthly reports provided by the provider
- Implementation of processes to increase data quality with clear responsibilities in different areas
Procedure
- Workshops to analyze the source data, requirements and general conditions
- Identification of a suitable technical platform
- Definition & coordination of the functional & technical requirements for the tool
- Support of the implementation, quality assurance and handover to the responsible departments
- Definition and implementation of the accompanying quality assurance processes
Results
- Uniform cross-divisional database for analyzing the application infrastructure
- Tool integrated into existing application – thus low implementation effort and costs
- Documentation of all data sources and their links, as well as possible quality deficiencies and their correction processes
